Why Not Try: Almond Milk

When I first became aware of my lactose intolerance, I switched out cow's milk for coconut milk. It's delicious, but way too high in saturated fat to use as an everyday milk substitute. However, if I'm in the mood for an ice cream treat or if I'm making a dessert that requires milk, it's a great option.

The milk substitute that I have come to love is almond milk. It has amazing health benefits, &, in my opinion tastes better than regular milk.

If you're having issues with dairy, & are concerned with the saturated fat in coconut milk, or, like me, are not fans of soy products then I would recommend giving Almond Milk a try.

Health Benefits of Almond Milk:
  • Lactose & Gluten Free
  • No antibiotics & growth hormones
  • Good source of zinc, magnesium, potassium, iron, Vitamin E {antioxidant- good for detox}, Vitamin A, manganese, & Selenium
  • Rich in protein and omega fatty acids
  • Almond skin contains flavonoids, which protect the heart
  • Almonds help lower LDL cholesterol & protect against heart disease
  • Contains high levels of unsaturated fat, which can lower the risk of heart attack
  • High in protein & low in carbs
  • Low in calories -there are about 60 calories less in almond milk than in skim milk
  • Has little to no saturated fat & no cholesterol -good for people with high cholesterol problems or for those trying to lose weight
My personal favorite brand is Blue Diamond. They have 3 different flavors, original, vanilla, & chocolate {with sweetened & unsweetened options}. The chocolate is legit amazing, I go through containers of it every week & it doesn't even have to be a guilty pleasure because it still has less calories than 2% milk & no saturated fat. So, instead of regular cow's milk this week, why not give Almond Milk a try?
